Round 12 AMA District 36 Championship Cross Country Series

October 5-6, 2019

Round 12 brought the MojoMotoSport Race Team back to the Mt. Shasta Ski Park for the 2nd Annual Bigfoot Blitz Hare Scrambles.  This race continues to evolve into a unique venue, with ski lift access for the spectators, live music, and restaurant/bar options for both food and drink.  The weekend was jam packed with great racing for all, and even a Bigfoot sighting!  Long uphills, tight single track, elevations up to 6800 feet, and silty conditions made for a demanding race for both man and machine.  As the last race of the weekend, the pro race had the most difficult conditions, the loose dirt stirring up tons of dust, which made visibility poor, and overheating an issue.  Despite the challenge, the MojoMotoSport Race team gave it their all:

Brandon Magann – Pro AA #109e (3rd Place)

Brandon continues to race well with another podium visit in third.  Here’s how he saw his performance: “Holeshot to the banner halfway up the hill, got overtaken by the 4-strokes and got lost in the dust up the rest of the hill. Was about 6th or so into the first turn. Charged down the next hill (Super Sketchy blind holes & rocks everywhere) passed back to 3rd OA and maintained that pace for the rest of the race. Really enjoyed this one, it was a true XC event!”

Lochlan Campbell – Pro AA #3 (6th Place AA/ 21st Overall)

The bad luck for Lochlan seems to keep coming, with bad crashes battering his body, bike, and results.  Despite this, he keeps competing and always takes it across the finish line!  Here’s what he said about his round 12 race: “Shasta was a crazy one, started immediately in the dust & crashed through a high speed rock section giving myself some pretty good road rash. Saddled back up and put her through the checkers, which is by no means special but I’ll take it.”

Brett Sage – A Open #120b (4th Place A Open/ 22nd Overall)

Brett just missed the podium this week, with difficulties and a little bad luck.  Here’s how the race went for him: “Had a great start went into 1st turn after the long uphill in 3rd A overall. I had an amazing first lap passing some pros and finding a groove, then I slammed my rear wheel on a rock really hard and popped my chain off! It took me a few minutes to get it back on and get rolling again. I lost a lot of time and a lot of positions. I then had overheating issues after that and just couldn’t catch back up! Not sure why my fan wasn’t working but the bike definitely took a beating. I ended up 4th in class and 22nd overall. I’m currently in 2nd in class in points and 16 points down with 4 races to go. I have my work cut out for me for sure. The KTM 450 will be getting a rebuild this week and I will be racing my 300 at Donner! Thanks to everyone who supports me!”

Anson Maloney - Pro AA #1

Anson continues to practice and train for the ISDE, so he didn’t race again this week.  Rumor has it that he’ll be out at the Donner Hare Scrambles putting fresh IRC VE33 Gekkota Tires on your wheels for MojoMotoSport! Get your Anson Maloney ISDE shirt at MojoMotoSport.com to support Anson’s trip to the ISDE in Portugal and Team U.S.A.!

The next race up in the Cross Country Series is the Donner Hare Scrambles, October 19th and 20th at the Donner Ski Ranch in Norden, California.  You’re not going to want to miss this round, which features an added attraction: The Donner Pass Motoclimb Challenge, presented by Elevated Action Sports!  Get your fix of Motoclimb AND Cross Country racing all in one weekend.  See you there!
